 Friday was fraught with disappointment. The day at work was scheduled for 10 hours with a four-hour shift for Saturday. Rats! Another Friday without a review. I loaded myself into the truck with ten bucks and only one destination in mind for the brew review for Saturday night, that being the Four Seasons with their massive cooler almost full of craft beer. Traffic was terrible but I only had myself to blame. I was glued to the Internet during my morning tea and waited too long to go on the beer run. But once inside the hallowed room of dark green walls, I bade greetings to Barry who shuffled in and out of view between the shelves. I was in the mood for a nice dark winter warmer. One that I hadn't had before, but hopefully, one that would challenge my palate. I was particularly looking for Delirium Noel, a strong Belgian ale brewed for this festive season. But, as luck etc., they had every other Delirium beer but the one that I was looking for. Down towards the bomber end of the shelf I spotted a candidate.  Here's something Christmasy to do this weekend: The holidays are a good time to visit Heritage Square Museum , a whole neighborhood of preserved buildings straight out of the history of Los Angeles. This time of year they deck the place out to do Charles Dickens proud. This picture was sent to me by Brian Sheridan, Director of Development and Communications at Heritage Square. Brian will soon be leaving to take a new position with the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers Watershed Council . (I don't think I'll lose track of him there.) Brian has invited me to Heritage Square many times in hopes that I'll blog about it, and I've done so because it's my kind of place. I'm so compelled by architecture, especially of old places. There's something about the buildings people used and lived in before us. Heritage Square preserves some unique specimens. The top photo is of the Ford House , where the exquisite woodwork was all carved by hand. That knowledge seems to add to the atmosphere in which the story is set. Should the festive season give immunity against crime? Strangely he moves into the hotel while the investigation of the murder is carried out just feeling he can't go back to his flat. This is Indridason's 3rd novel to be translated into English. It was originally published in 2003 and made it into English in 2006.  Just a few days ago we were thumbing our noses at winter, laughing that our chilly Southern California summer had been compensated for by a warm winter. Oops!  At the beginning of each December, when the Christmas boxes come down from the attic, one of the boxes I most look forward to opening is the one that contains the Christmas films and books. Until Christmas Eve I like to leave them under the Christmas tree, until they are replaced by the presents! So, my old man was asking me about brewing some time ago. I thought he was just making conversation, however, it turns out he was looking for Christmas gift ideas. I mentioned that I was going to try to convert a keg to a keggle soon. Sure enough, he found a keg and attempted to do it himself and give it as a gift to me. Unfortunately, he hasn't had much experience working with stainless steel (like most of us). He ended up using a cutting torch to take the top off. The cut is very rough and pretty ugly but I think I can clean it up by cutting the outer edge off (widen the circle) using a rotozip and be fine. The problem is there is a bunch of metal scrapping laying in the bottom that is not coming out easily. I rinsed it out multiple times but still have pieces left. Obviously I don't want to brew if there is any chance of metal debris ending up in the beer. I am also afraid the scrub on it to much, since the metal could start scratching up the stainless steel once it get stuck on the cloth. Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas?
